Arto's early years were filled with excitement as well as with
many learning curves. One of many stories Arto shares involves
the painting displayed on the right. He painted this work at the
age of twelve. At a point in the process of this painting he ran
out of linseed oil (a vital medium when painting in oils). He
asked his mother to give him olive oil to use instead of the linseed
oil. As Arto tells it, this painting is still not dry.
Inspired by his early teachers and by masters, such as William Turner, Arto continued to experiment with paintings to perfect his media and style. The two examples below are from his teenage years.
